What Is Medicare Part B Coverage?

Medicare Part B is medical insurance. Together, Medicare Parts A and B are known as Original Medicare.

Medical services and supplies covered by Medicare Part B may include doctor visits, laboratory tests, X-rays, emergency ambulance services, mental health services, durable medical equipment, preventive services, and rehabilitative care such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology services.

If you did not enroll in Medicare Part B when you were first eligible, you may have to pay a late-enrollment penalty in the form of a higher premium unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
